Stepping into the unknown
Leaving the safety of a comfort zone scares most people. It's unpredictable, confronting and uncomfortable. It's human nature to avoid conflict and bask in the comfort of the familiar and the known. I guess that's why it's called a comfort zone.
But for others, breaking out of the routine and stepping into the unknown is exhilarating. It can be scary, yes, but it's also a breath of fresh air and a burst of adrenaline that is hard to find elsewhere. Breaking out of the comfort zone is an adventure.
And guess what...
At the edges of comfort and familiarity, magic is hiding in wait. The kind of magic that stays with you for life. The kind of magic that once you've experienced it you'll be a better person. The kind of magic that is hard to say no to.
This kind of magic is learning and growth. It's opening yourself up to new experiences and being ok with getting it wrong. It's saying yes to opportunities you don't yet know how to do and making it up along the way. It's overcoming fears and conquering self doubts, proving to yourself that you can do it.
I broke out of my comfort zone recently and moved halfway across the world. It took courage, it took guts, but most importantly it took a firm belief that I would make things work no matter the circumstances.
'Just keep moving forward' someone special once told me. 'Embrace change, learn from mistakes and make uncomfortable comfortable.'
How do you deal with change and what are your strategies for living outside of your comfort zone?
